Yesterday's Bread

DAY 1 OF 3

A Time and a Place

Growing up, we had a family business and I remember hearing debates between my brother and my dad about keeping the typewriter or moving on to Microsoft Word, a software-based word processor. One day my brother finally just threw out the typewriter as my dad was having trouble adapting to the new way of word processing on a computer. The way he had always known which carried much value in its prime had become inefficient and was slowing the ability to do business well in the current day and age they were operating in.

In our Christian walk, it’s easy to become complacent because we no longer are stretching the boundaries of our faith and just stay in the comfort area we have always known. Since God fixed it a certain way in the past, we carry a tendency to believe He will fix it the same way in the future and when He doesn’t, we may feel like God isn’t listening when in reality, He is always listening and answering in ways we can’t predict.

I’ve caught myself many times recommending an answered prayer God provided me to someone else as I felt it was how He would take care of them because it’s how I saw God move in my own life. What I learned over time was that His love and affection is unanimous for all but how He blesses each of us is unique according to the time and season we are at in our lives.

Yesterday’s blessing or “bread from heaven” has a time and a place. Part of growing in our walk with God is continually leaning on Him and never becoming self-sustained. The moment we forget we need God, is the moment we start drifting off course in God’s plan for our life.

Day 2

About this Plan

Yesterday's Bread

When God blesses us it's so easy to hang on to what He did and how He did it. We tend to forget He wants to do more for us and possibly in a different way than in the past. In this 3-day devotional by Pastor Jeff Gwaltney, we will take a look at how God desires to keep the blessings fresh in our life.
