Choose to Love

DAY 2 OF 5

Decide to love your life

I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve done my share of complaining about my life. It’s not too hard, you know, to find things to complain about—financial pressures, jerks at work, crime, aches and pains, and the huge army of disagreeable people that populates this planet. It’s not too hard to envy and resent people who seem younger, richer, and more comfortable. We all want heaven on earth, and that means a bushel of disappointments every day.

But only if you’ve made a decision to let Satan steal your joy. Here’s a better way—to look for God’s daily gifts, even the small ones, and decide to enjoy your life: “This is what I have observed to be good: that it is appropriate for people to eat, to drink and to find satisfaction in their toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given them—for this is their lot. Moreover, when God gives someone wealth and possessions, and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil—this is a gift of God. They seldom reflect on the days of their life, because God keeps them occupied with gladness of heart” (Ecclesiastes 5:18-20). Good advice, Solomon. We deserve nothing from God, but for Jesus’ sake he gives us so much!

Instead of burning out the lining of your stomach envying someone else’s life, how about deciding to love yours?
