Worthless ChristianitySample

Romans 12:1 urges us to “offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God.” Many Christians read this verse and are ready and excited to give their bodies as a living sacrifice to God. While we are ready and eager to give our entire bodies over to God to take us where He wants us to go and do with our bodies what He would have us to do, as believers we too often overlook the fact that our tongue is a full part of our sacrifice to God.
If we do not submit our speech to God as a living sacrifice to Him, the results are dangerous. In James 3, James describes in detail the dangers of the tongue throughout the chapter and likens an untamed tongue to a “deadly poison.” At this moment, I issue you a challenge: present your tongue as a living sacrifice to God.
God can change the world through your speech if you surrender your tongue to Him.
Whether we are aware of it or not, our speech reflects the character that is inside of us. As people who have been changed by the Gospel, our attitude should always reflect the Gospel and a desire for others also to be transformed by the Gospel. James says that “With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.”
James compares the tongue to the bridle in a horse’s mouth or the rudder on a ship. Both of the instruments are very small but have direct control of the actions of the body that they control. The same is true of our tongues. Although our tongues are small, they have direct control over our actions. When appropriately used, our words possess tremendous impact.
Consider the sins we commit with our tongue such as gossip, lies, perversion, or even our lack of sharing the Gospel with others. Consider the damage it is to those around us.
How could you better use the tongue God has given you to glorify Him? I challenge you to present your entire bodies as a sacrifice to God, including your tongue.
