White as Snow
“Come now, and let us reason together,” says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool."
Our journey has brought us to one of the world's great natural wonders—White Sands National Monument. The white sand glistens in the bright sun, and there is a real sense of purity here. But there is also a real sense of danger. In the middle of two hundred seventy-five square miles of harsh desert, survival is precarious. I was surprised to learn that over eight hundred different animal species live here. Over time, many of them have changed color; they've become white species, in order to survive and thrive in this harsh environment. They've been transformed by their exposure to the sun.
You can be transformed by exposure to another Son. The darkness of your sin can be made "white as snow." And Jewish prophets foretold the only one who could accomplish it—Jesus, the Son of God.
Hundreds of years before Jesus was born, the prophet Isaiah painted a picture of Jesus as both God and man—beautiful in His purity and dangerous in His power. He would alter the landscape of history as He transformed people, one by one.
But why would Mighty God choose to wrap Himself in skin and spend three decades walking the earth alongside those who would reject Him? Why would He submit to the sacrifice it would take to save us all? Well, despite our rebellion, God desires nothing more than to invite us back into relationship with Him.
Jesus humbly stuck to His Father's mission to offer people peace with God and rest from sin’s burdens. Jesus is the fulfillment of God’s promise to bring into relationship with God anyone who comes to Him in faith.
