All Things Work Together For Your Good

DAY 5 OF 7

Love God with all your strength!

God promises that He’ll take care of us entirely, totally, perfectly: that’s His part. For this promise to be accomplished, we must also do our part: love God.

In His great love, God doesn’t stop being good to those who don’t love Him. However, when people love Him, He’s enabled to go even further in His love!

“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” (Romans 8:28)

Loving God fully (not only halfway, according to the mood you might be in) is part of one of the two greatest commandments. Only, when an adverse wind blows in our lives, loving God with such intensity may seem impossible to us or beyond our abilities.

So, what does this truly mean, to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength?

  • Loving God with all your heart is loving Him with honesty, like someone loves a spouse: wholeheartedly. Even when we don’t understand all of His ways, we can love Him with a heart that says, “Yes, I will follow You, and I will trust You.” Even when we feel distraught, lost at sea, we can love Him by saying, “I am my beloved’s, And my beloved is mine. He feeds his flock among the lilies.” (see the Song of Solomon 6:3)
  • Loving God with all your soul is loving Him by longing to be in His presence, be attached to Him. The Lord is the only One who can satisfy our souls completely: “I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him?” (see Psalm 42:2)
  • Loving God with all your mind is loving Him by turning our thoughts to Him. When our minds are filled with all sorts of guilty or negative thoughts, God gives us the strength to redirect them to Him and His kindness: “I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night.” (see Psalm 63:6)
  • Loving God with all your strength is also loving Him with perseverance. When fatigue creeps into our daily lives, when we become weary in our love, God comes to remind us that He alone loves us with a relentless love.

God will take care of everything for you. All you have to do (and can do) is love Him fully and entirely. “Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.” (see Hebrews 6:12) God knows your weaknesses and failures, but the only thing that really matters to Him is that you remain close to Him!
