Your God Story Matters

Have you ever thought about making a difference in someone’s live by sharing a personal God story?

Bonar, a young man in Indonesia did Just that. Bonar has a friend called Beatrice who is relatively new to faith and is passionate about finding videos or articles that affirm her new worldview. She shared a Christian-themed video on Facebook about all the suffering in the world. It wasn’t long before one of her friend’s commented that he didn’t agree with the viewpoint of the video. From there ensued a long discussion about God and suffering.

Bonar watched the Facebook conversation deteriorate with every complex question that was raised. He could see that Beatrice’s attempts to combat debate topics were clearly not helping her friend learn about or understand God. Bonar decided to get involved and share his personal God story. It was very helpful.

Why did Bonar make it personal? Because God is personal. Rather than engaging with the theological and philosophical questions, Bonar wanted to engage the curiosity of a non-Christian at a personal heart level, not a head level. It is God’s personal involvement in Bonar’s day to day activities that continues to drive his relationship with God, not his theological understanding of who God is.

It is ok not to have all the answers to the questions that people ask you. You don’t need all the smart replies when you have a personal story. Revelation 12 describes how followers of Jesus can overcome situations through the blood of Jesus and their testimony.
