Refuel: Faith-Building Pit-Stops On Your Road Trip

DAY 3 OF 7

ERGO BABY CARRIERS

You must’ve seen some of them — Mom, or sometimes Dad, wearing a li’l thingy with baby in it. They’re just so hard to miss. At quick glance, you’d think the infant was placed on a backpack worn in front by the parent. You must’ve seen this team-up somewhere — in a mall or some family event.

Sometimes, two hands just aren’t enough! For the makers of the Ergo Baby Carrier, they had the perfect solution for busy moms and dads who need to do some other stuff while making sure that their babies are with them wherever they went.

For a seeker-sensitive thinker like me, this image is a nice illustration for an interesting word, hasaq. It is Hebrew for the kind of love that was described in Deuteronomy.

Hasaq stands for a special kind of love. It means binding love. It is love that is attached, fastened and fixed firmly to. Think of a mom carrying a baby in an Ergo Baby Carrier, but they are glued together using the strongest adhesive. Replace the straps and belts with metal chains. Then put a padlock without keys. What you see is a picture that may qualify to describe hasaq in Romans 8:38–39.

The apostle Paul sure covered all the bases, but he was hammering in just one point: “Nothing can separate us from the love of God.”

So maybe you messed up yesterday and you’re figuring out whether God loves you still. Maybe you made a wrong decision and you’re thinking that God just quit loving you. Remember hasaq! God loves us with a love that is binding. And nothing is ever too powerful to stop God from loving you. No mistake, no blunder, no slip-up can make God choose not to love you.

Contemplate on this. Hear God say today, “I love you no matter what!”

One on one with God
Daddy God, I am moved to tears whenever I think about Your great love for me. It is Your love that makes me want to love You more. Thank You, Dad, for choosing to love me despite of my shortcomings. This love gives me strength. This love is what keeps me going. I love You, Dad. Amen.
