How Christian Leaders Experience Great Outcomes?

DAY 2 OF 3

 DISCIPLES FOLLOW CHRIST’S LEAD

Later in the passage, the team of Jesus’ disciples recognized that it was time for a meal for the thousands, who had come to hear Jesus, and so they came to Jesus with a solution. The disciples demonstrated leadership when they noticed a need and responded with a solution also.

When the disciples presented the need and solution, we notice Jesus took the lead in addressing the need. However, Jesus offered a different solution; instead of sending the crowd away to fetch their food from the towns nearby, as suggested by the team of disciples, Jesus told his disciples to feed the crowd right then and there.

The disciples saw this was an impossible task for them, and so they expressed to Jesus their inability to feed thousands of people then and there; there was not enough food or resources to acquire food. Some tasks that Jesus assigns to Christian leaders may appear to be beyond their resources, gifts and talents. It would require leaders to depend on, as well as work with Jesus to fulfill the task.

Jesus, continuing to be the leader, turns to his disciples for assistance to find out how many loaves of bread was available with them, as the first step. The disciples went around and found out that five loaves of bread and two fish were available; they brought them to Jesus,

The disciples must have wondered, why Jesus would ask them to find out how many loaves of bread was available? Yet, the disciples followed the instructions of Jesus Christ.

Jesus directed his team of disciples to seat the thousands of people in preparation for the meal. The disciples then turned their attention to organizing and seating thousands of people to receive food and eat in an orderly manner without confusion, stampeding, and disorderliness.

Jesus accepted the bread and fish brought to hm by his team of disciples, prayed and blessed the bread and fish, and gave them to his disciples to distribute to the thousands already seated on the grass. It must have needed considerable effort to distribute food to thousands of people but it appears, the disciples accomplished it well.

The task of getting food and distributing it to 5000 men plus thousands of women and children was an enormous task for the disciples of Jesus Christ, but they successfully completed their task. The team of disciples did its part to carry out the instruction of Jesus Christ to feed thousands of hungry people by:

1) Locating available food among them

2) Bringing a few loaves of bread and a few fish to Jesus Christ

3) Seating thousands of men, women and children on the grass

4) Distributing the food to the thousands in an orderly manner

5) Gathering the leftover food.

The disciples originally wanted the crowd to go to nearby towns and get food. But, their leader, Jesus, had a different idea. As a Christian leader, always pay attention to what Christ says to you as your leader.
