Love God Greatly: To Do Justice, To Love Kindness, To Walk HumblySample

Today's verses in Micah are a rebuke for the authorities of Israel and Judah. They should know justice. They should know what's right and what's wrong since they have the authority to punish those who are outside the law. However, they were using their privileges to attack the poor.
Look at the hard terms Micah uses to describe how these rulers were mistreating the people. He talks about torn skin, broken bones, and chopped flesh. They sound more like butchers than authorities.
It's hard for us to understand why God would allow this to happen. Why would He let these wicked men pervert His law and corrupt the people? Why does He place corrupt and wicked authorities in charge of some countries? I don‘t know. But He does. And, as Isaiah reminded me today, His thoughts are not my thoughts. I don't have to understand. I only have to accept His perfect will.
We can see around the world how bad rulers make people suffer. Proverbs 29:2 says, “When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, the people groan.” Let's follow the advice that Paul gives us in 1 Timothy 2:1-2 and pray for our authorities so we can live a peaceful and quiet life.
Dear God, I pray for the authorities in my country. I pray that You would give them wisdom and clarity to rule well. I ask You for their salvation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
