DAY 4 OF 21

RELATIONSHIP

Have you ever had a relationship that went horribly wrong? You and a friend had some major fight, a boyfriend or girlfriend betrayed you, or you were part of some serious relational carnage that played out on the social media stage? Given enough time, every one of us will probably find ourselves in a situation where a relationship is seriously damaged or even completely severed. When that happens, we may hope that we can somehow reconcile or heal that relationship, but unfortunately that isn’t always possible. In the worst cases, our former friends can actually turn into enemies.

Well, that is exactly the relational situation we used to be in with God. Don’t mishear me, God has ALWAYS loved you and wanted a relationship with you. But, through our sin and rejection of Him, we had chosen to be His enemy. One of the things that is so amazing about Jesus’ work on the cross is that it completely reconciles our relationship with God – we go from being His enemy to His friend. Let that sink in for a second…the all-powerful Creator of the world considers you His friend! So, when you pray, you can approach God just like you would a friend. When you are going through a hard time, God hurts for you the way you would feel empathy for a friend in the same situation. Now that you are a Christ follower, your best friend in the whole world is God. He will never leave you, will never let you down, will never betray you, and will always be working for your best interests. Your relational status with God has been completely changed, and that changes everything.

Read these verses from Romans 5 and then spend a few moments just talking to your new Best Friend.
