Hollywood Prayer Network On Pride

DAY 3 OF 7

DON'T LET WEALTH MAKE YOU PROUD

"It was pride that changed angels into devils; it is humility that makes men as angels." Augustine

"In the midst of a world of light and love, of song and feast and dance, Lucifer could find nothing to think of more interesting than his own prestige." C.S. Lewis

PRAY:  Dear Lord, help me to never get too much wealth, fame, beauty, success, or status, so that it becomes more important than You. Help me to stay humble with all that You've given me and not to get proud, thinking that I achieved it all myself. Help me to never be arrogant because of the good life that I live, for I don't want to be brought low or be corrupted. Lord, let me be wise and know that I have anything good because of You and Your splendor. Please keep my human pride humbled and may only You be exalted in my life. Thank You for all You've given me and may I always know it all comes from You! Amen.
REFLECT: Reflect on the fact that nothing we do, nothing that we are, nothing that we think or say is because we're so smart, clever, funny, or wise on our own. Everything we are, everything we do, and everything we say comes from the Lord. He created us, He gives us our gifts, talents, and character traits. He had a plan for whom we are to become from when we were in our mother's womb. So, as we work hard, make money, and gain success, we must always be aware that it's a gift from God and it's all His. We are the stewards of what he gives us, from material things to intelligence, humor, and joy, and we have to stay humble by "rejoicing always, praying constantly, and giving thanks in all situations," "for the Lord alone, is to be exalted."
ACT:  Make a list of your successes, your accomplishments, joys, attributes, and even great qualities. Then pray through that list and thank the Lord for each one, giving Him the glory, appreciating that He alone has given you the ability to achieve them and the intelligence to maintain them. Ask Him to take away any pride that would allow you to take credit for anything that you have, do, say, or accomplish and praise Him for the life He has graciously given you. Keep that list and occasionally pull it out and go through it again, with thanks and praise!

About this Plan

Hollywood Prayer Network On Pride

“Pride cometh before the fall.” What a well-known quote that we have all used at one time or another to judge prideful people. We’re going to spend this week looking into pride and how we can be proud of our choices, proud of God, and proud of others, yet not prideful about our accomplishments, traits, etc. Let’s celebrate God being proud of us while changing any prideful thoughts…
