Jesus Revealed Part 16 - It's In The NameSample
Jesus' High Priestly Prayer Part 1
Thoughts on the Passage
This chapter records the prayer that Jesus gives to the disciples just before He goes to the cross. It is called the “High Priestly” prayer. We will take this prayer slowly because it is a powerful prayer both in terms of its content and also in terms of how it applies to us today. Take it slowly as we walk through it and let it speak to us like we were one of those receiving it that day.
Jesus starts by talking about glory that He wants to see released. God will bring glory to Jesus in this time and all will bring glory to the Father.
What is glory?
Glory is the revelation of God’s splendor and majesty. It is revealed through His actions, His character, His ways and responses, and through direct revelation of splendor. The Father revealed Himself through Jesus to us, and we see the incredible splendor of His love, His mercy, His heart for mankind, and the extent He would go so we could have forgiveness.
Mankind misses this because they look for something bright and majestic – not realizing that what Jesus did revealed all of this:
Jesus glorified the Father by doing the work God sent Him to do. Jesus demonstrated the power of God over every sickness and disease, over death, and over every demonic power. He will now release God’s glory by making salvation available for all mankind.
Now Jesus asks the Father to restore the glory that Jesus had before He came to this earth. It was the splendor and brilliance that Jesus laid aside so that He could come and bring eternal life to us. The letter to the Philippians shows how Jesus humbled Himself and laid aside His glory. The letter to the Hebrews shows how that glory will be restored to Jesus.
Yes, the simple acts of obedience and submission to the Father and His Word releases glory. We can do that too.
Application
Do we celebrate the glory of God’s mercy, grace, forgiveness, and love? It is a revelation of His greatness and splendor.
Take time today to be a person who allows God’s grace, mercy, forgiveness, and ability to bless and love to be released to your world. It is a release of the glory of the Father for our world to see.
Time to Pray
Father, today I ask for a heart that releases You to my world. They need hope – I have hope. They need your grace and mercy – I have received it from You, and I can pray for them to receive it. They need forgiveness – I can pray with them that they would have courage to call upon the name of Jesus for forgiveness. Moses wanted to see Your glory, and You showed him the glory of Your goodness. Show me the glory of Your mercy, grace, forgiveness, peace, love, gentleness, hope…. I want to see it too. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
About this Plan
People who have the backing of someone high in authority have a certain air in the way they walk and carry themselves. In Plan 16 we see the power there is in being connected to Jesus and Jesus being one with the Father. Being united with Jesus is being united with the Father – if only we truly harnessed that truth and allowed it to release power in our lives.
