When You Need To Move A MountainSample
Prayers for Healing
When my beautiful, disabled daughter was six years old, she developed a bladder infection that resulted in sepsis, a serious, often fatal infection that causes a person’s immune system to attack their body. As soon as we realized how ill she was, we rushed her to the hospital. The doctor took one look at my sleeping daughter, noted her wheelchair, and said to me, “This illness could be God’s way of helping you let go of your daughter. I could withhold the antibiotic. What would you like me to do?”
My voice was firm. “Give her the medicine.” We went back and forth three times before the medicine was given to Laura. After only a couple treatments, Laura was once again her precious self. The doctor came in to see her laughing and singing in her bed. With tears in his eyes, he sat down on the edge of her bed and said, “I’m so sorry. I didn’t know.”
He didn’t know what? That Laura was a real person, even though she had a disability? If I had withheld the needed medication that day, I would have missed years of blessings of enjoying my daughter’s wonderful life. Disability or not, she was my cherished daughter.
Wait a minute, Linda, you might be thinking. You said your daughter was in a wheelchair. You said your daughter died. Yes, I did. And I have to say there are mysteries only heaven holds the answer to. For now, I just have to put these mysteries in my “trust God anyway” folder and hand it over to God. When I arrive in heaven, this folder will no doubt lose its mystery. But for now, I will continue to trust God.
It’s true that God never gave my daughter all the healings I’d asked for. He never healed her sight or even allowed her to walk. Yet, He woke my daughter from a coma and granted her and my family His supernatural love, peace, joy, and provision through it all. Wasn’t that also a miracle? And though I miss Laura terribly, He continues to heal my heart. How glad I am that Laura has now experienced complete healing in heaven. Your story and my story allow us to discover the promises of God’s Word, and this is medicine that restores our bodies. God’s promises always bring life.
Father, give me eyes of faith to believe that You will heal me and bind up my wounds (Hosea 6:1). Give me eyes to see your miracles. Help my unbelief (Mark 9:23-25). In Jesus name, amen.
