DAY 4 OF 6

Your Crisis, His Solution

God will not overcome evil by crushing it under-foot—any god of man’s idea could do that—but by conquest of heart over heart, of life over life, of life over death, of love over all. — George MacDonald

Heroes respond to needs. They see the crisis and they take action. And our Hero Jesus took radical action! He spanned the gap of eternity to enter our world and gave us His all.

Why? There are at least three great reasons:

  1. Because of God’s justice, our sins required forgiveness. God couldn’t say, “Never mind; I love you—so I won’t worry about your sins!” Because He’s perfectly just, He can’t just do that.
  2. Because we were dead in sin, we needed Jesus to provide life for us. We couldn’t provide life for ourselves because—well—we were dead.
  3. Because of our rebellion, our relationship with God the Father required restoration. We couldn’t restore it, but Jesus could. Christ came to bring us back into fellowship with the Father.

That’s why what Jesus did on the cross is the most heroic act in all of history. He voluntarily substituted Himself in our place to bring us back to God.

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. (1 Peter 3:18)

That’s worth pondering for a moment, isn’t it?  That’s the new view from above. The wrath of God has been satisfied by the sacrifice of God so that we can experience the intimacy of God.

Dear Jesus, thank You for responding to my deepest needs! You have given me forgiveness, Life, and relationship with the Father. Let those truths be my rest. Amen.
