Life Of A DiscipleSample
Chris Cruz
Scriptures:
Matthew 10 and 11; John 10:10; 1 John 5:12; Ephesians 2:4-5; Colossians 1:3
Jesus said, “It is enough for a disciple to be like his teacher.” That “enough” provides such a quality and quantity of truth and life that it fulfills all the demands and needs of a person’s being. Jesus teaches us how to live content in life, because He is enough. This life of a disciple starts with salvation, but launches us into a lifestyle of learning from and becoming more like Jesus, practicing the way of life embodied by our Master.
Jesus, in offering the kingdom to every person, invites us to a wholly new way to be human, and this is discipleship at its core - a life fully rearranged, fully based in the renewal of our whole being, fully retrained to revolve around Him. The idea that one can be a Christian by name and not by nature is not found in or supported by the New Testament, because we are meant to reorganize our life around Him, inviting Him to be the guiding, unifying principle of all that we do.
As disciples, we are invited to step through the door of salvation and forgiveness in Christ and embark on a journey to embody the dream God has for us individually. Salvation is God rescuing us from the human we were never meant to be, empowered with the grace to become the human He dreamed each of us to be, and obedience is our opportunity to be who God says we are.
So, today, ask yourself the following:
- Who does God say that you are?
- How are you intentionally partnering with God in the rearranging of your life to be like your Teacher?
- Who are you becoming?
About this Plan
Each of us is called to a journey of following Jesus and being His disciple. As we grow in knowing Him and trusting Him we look increasingly like Him to the world. In this four part series, we will be exploring what it means to be a disciple and how to walk it out in our everyday lives.
