Beauty that Laughs at the Future


Sometimes, it seems as if women were created with a button that stands for “WORRY.” Except this button is stuck more often than not, and we seem unable to turn it off so we end up walking around with a broken button that’s constantly set to “WORRY, ON.”

My personal theory is that it comes from the moment God created Eve, when He saw that man was alone and decided that Adam needed an “ezer kenegdo.” Translated, this means: “help in time of need.” The only other time this phrase was used in the Bible is to refer to God himself.

That’s us. Not mere “help,” and not just a “mate.” We’re the help in time of need. And if this means that we walk around anticipating all the ways that something can go wrong, well, can we help ourselves? We’re meant to look out for our loved ones and make sure that if or when something goes wrong, we’ve got the tools ready to help.

However, what turns worry into anxiety and then into despair? What makes us spend all day going around concentrating on all the things that can go wrong and not so much on how, as women, we’ve already got all the tools we need to handle whatever comes our way? Isn’t it from not knowing the outcome? Isn’t it that we can’t seem to make up our minds (and hearts) to trust that this invisible God has promised that He’s got us?

Now I’d like for us to shift our mental processes and think that God is ABSOLUTELY capable. Just shift it with me and think: aren’t we already sure about the outcome? God Himself causes all things to work together for the good of those who love Him.

This doesn’t mean that trials and tribulations won’t come, but we were MADE for those trials and tribulations. And that’s why we laugh. Because in Christ, we do ALL things.

A daughter of God stares unblinkingly into the bright mysterious future, and laughs. Because He’s got this, and He’s got us.
