They stood at a distance 13and called out in a loud voice, &#8220;Jesus, Master, have pity on us!&#8221;</div><div class="p">14When he saw them, he said, &#8220;Go, show yourselves to the priests.&#8221; And as they went, they were cleansed.</div><div class="p">15One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16He threw himself at Jesus&#8217; feet and thanked him&#8212;and he was a Samaritan.</div><div class="p">17Jesus asked, &#8220;Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?&#8221; 19Then he said to him, &#8220;Rise and go; your faith has made you well.&#8221;</div>

 <div class="p">1Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. 2He said: &#8220;In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. 3And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, &#8216;Grant me justice against my adversary.&#8217;</div><div class="p">4 &#8220;For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, &#8216;Even though I don&#8217;t fear God or care what people think, 5yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won&#8217;t eventually come and attack me!&#8217;&#8198;&#8221;</div><div class="p">6And the Lord said, &#8220;Listen to what the unjust judge says. 7And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?&#8221;</div><div class="s1">The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector</div><div class="p">9To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: 10&#8220;Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: &#8216;God, I thank you that I am not like other people&#8212;robbers, evildoers, adulterers&#8212;or even like this tax collector. 12I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.&#8217;</div><div class="p">13 &#8220;But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, &#8216;God, have mercy on me, a sinner.&#8217;</div><div class="p">14 &#8220;I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.&#8221;</div><div class="s1">The Little Children and Jesus</div><div class="p">15People were also bringing babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. 16But Jesus called the children to him and said, &#8220;Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.&#8221;</div><div class="s1">The Rich and the Kingdom of God</div><div class="p">18A certain ruler asked him, &#8220;Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?&#8221;</div><div class="p">19 &#8220;Why do you call me good?&#8221; Jesus answered. &#8220;No one is good&#8212;except God alone. 20You know the commandments: &#8216;You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.&#8217;#18:20 Exodus 20:12-16; Deut. 5:16-20&#8221;</div><div class="p">21&#8220;All these I have kept since I was a boy,&#8221; he said.</div><div class="p">22When Jesus heard this, he said to him, &#8220;You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.&#8221;</div><div class="p">23When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy. 24Jesus looked at him and said, &#8220;How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! 25Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.&#8221;</div><div class="p">26Those who heard this asked, &#8220;Who then can be saved?&#8221;</div><div class="p">27Jesus replied, &#8220;What is impossible with man is possible with God.&#8221;</div><div class="p">28Peter said to him, &#8220;We have left all we had to follow you!&#8221;</div><div class="p">29 &#8220;Truly I tell you,&#8221; Jesus said to them, &#8220;no one who has left home or wife or brothers or sisters or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God 30will fail to receive many times as much in this age, and in the age to come eternal life.&#8221;</div>

 <div class="label">19</div><div class="s1">Divorce</div><div class="p">1When Jesus had finished saying these things, he left Galilee and went into the region of Judea to the other side of the Jordan. 2Large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.</div><div class="p">3Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, &#8220;Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?&#8221;</div><div class="p">4 &#8220;Haven&#8217;t you read,&#8221; he replied, &#8220;that at the beginning the Creator &#8216;made them male and female,&#8217;#19:4 Gen. 1:27 5and said, &#8216;For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh&#8217;#19:5 Gen. 2:24? 6So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.&#8221;</div><div class="p">7&#8220;Why then,&#8221; they asked, &#8220;did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?&#8221;</div><div class="p">8Jesus replied, &#8220;Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. 9I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.&#8221;</div><div class="p">10The disciples said to him, &#8220;If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry.&#8221;</div><div class="p">11Jesus replied, &#8220;Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given. 12For there are eunuchs who were born that way, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others&#8212;and there are those who choose to live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.&#8221;</div><div class="s1">The Little Children and Jesus</div><div class="p">13Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them.</div><div class="p">14Jesus said, &#8220;Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.&#8221; 15When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there.</div><div class="s1">The Rich and the Kingdom of God</div><div class="p">16Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, &#8220;Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?&#8221;</div><div class="p">17 &#8220;Why do you ask me about what is good?&#8221; Jesus replied. &#8220;There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.&#8221;</div><div class="p">18&#8220;Which ones?&#8221; he inquired.</div><div class="p">Jesus replied, &#8220;&#8198;&#8216;You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19honor your father and mother,&#8217;#19:19 Exodus 20:12-16; Deut. 5:16-20 and &#8216;love your neighbor as yourself.&#8217;#19:19 Lev. 19:18&#8221;</div><div class="p">20&#8220;All these I have kept,&#8221; the young man said. &#8220;What do I still lack?&#8221;</div><div class="p">21Jesus answered, &#8220;If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.&#8221;</div><div class="p">22When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.</div><div class="p">23Then Jesus said to his disciples, &#8220;Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.&#8221;</div><div class="p">25When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, &#8220;Who then can be saved?&#8221;</div><div class="p">26Jesus looked at them and said, &#8220;With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.&#8221;</div><div class="p">27Peter answered him, &#8220;We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?&#8221;</div><div class="p">28Jesus said to them, &#8220;Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife#19:29 Some manuscripts do not have or wife. or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. 30But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.</div>
