Finding God In Your DepressionSample

Finding God In Your Depression

DAY 5 OF 7

Day 5

Sometimes even our trusted friends cannot be found when we are bowed down in heart and really need their help and encouragement. At other times we choose to carry our burdens alone to avoid others growing weary of us. The prophet Isaiah offers words of comfort grounded in the view that God is not like people. His wisdom is limitless, and he never grows weary or tired. Instead, the Creator of the whole earth gives strength when we need it most.

Pray

God, I’m weary in body, mind, and heart. I need my strength to be renewed.  Please come to my aid.

Read

Isaiah describes God as incomparable.

Isaiah 40:28-31

Reflect

According to Isaiah, God does not get tired, his wisdom is limitless, and he strengthens the powerless. How can these ideas help you trust God to handle your confusion, bewilderment, pain or torment? Do you think God can be trusted to raise you up out of depression? Why or why not? Can you accept Isaiah’s claim that “Those who trust in the Lord for help will find their strength renewed” (verse 31 GNT)?

Respond

Do some research on how eagles fly and then reread verse 31. Talk to God about strengthening you to wait on his help to soar beyond depression.

About this Plan

Finding God In Your Depression

The Bible may seem an unlikely source to turn to for answers, but there’s no mistaking the face of depression as a psalmist cries out to God in anguish or as Job laments the day of his birth. Amid their pain and suffering, they find hope in God. Their accounts and the encouraging words of others in Scripture can help you navigate the murky waters of depression.
