Walking With JesusSample
The Word of God
God’s Word includes both the logos and rhema Word. The logos Word is the written Word and the rhema Word is God’s revelation Word for you in a specific situation. God can speak to us in different ways, but whatever we feel He is saying will never be contrary to His written Word.
Some key aspects concerning The Word of God:
- God cannot change or go back on His Word (Hebrews 13:8)
- His Word will not pass away (Matthew 24:35)
- We must read the Word of God daily (Revelation 1:3)
- We must meditate on the Word of God (Psalm 1:2-3)
- We must memorise the Word of God (Psalm 119:9-11)
- We must study the Word of God (Acts 17:11; 2 Timothy 2:15)
- We must believe the Word of God (1 Thessalonians 2:13)
- We must live the Word of God practically (James 1:22)
- We must share the Word of God with others (John 8:30-32)
Sometimes the ”facts” in our lives seem to disagree with the “truth” of God’s Word. For example, it is not possible to walk on water, but Peter was able to when Jesus called him to do it. W. Clement Stone said: “Truth will always be truth, regardless of a lack of understanding, disbelief or ignorance.”
According to 2 Timothy 3:16, God’s Word is profitable for:
- Doctrine - what to believe and how to live
- Reproof - exposing sin and a wrong lifestyle
- Correction - how to change
- Instruction in righteousness - how to live
We should study the Word of God in order to get to know God. His character and way of doing things are revealed in His Word.
Reflection questions (write your answers in a journal):
- Some people believe the Bible is a mere man-written book. What do you believe?
- Write down two Scriptures that have meant a lot to you in the past few weeks. Explain what God has told you through these Scriptures?
