Say Yes When Life Says NoSample

Say Yes When Life Says No

DAY 2 OF 5

The thought that Mr. Blind Man woke up every morning without sight is overwhelming to me. He had never seen the sun rise over the eastern horizon. He had never seen the twinkle of those stars that children learn to sing about. One day he had gone to sit at the street corner, as he had done for most of his life, to do what he always did—beg for handouts. Sightless and dark. But by the close of that day, he was able to see the sunset for the first time and watch those twinkling stars come out. How did this happen? How could life change so drastically for a man with such a lifelong problem?

Many people bring their problems to Jesus, but things don’t change. They don’t get healed or delivered. We set ourselves up for disappointment and disillusionment when we believe that Jesus answers in an instantaneous way. Surrendering everything about ourselves and our lives to God allows the process of His transformative power to be set in motion. Mr. Blind Man was waiting, anticipating, and willing to cooperate when Jesus showed up. Are we?

The one issue that is guaranteed to be solved when Jesus becomes our Savior and Lord is our natural condition because of the problem of sin. While we do not become perfect at the moment of salvation, we are covered by the righteousness of Christ (Romans 3:22). We are spared from the penalty of sin and freed from the bondage of sin (Romans 6:23). In other words, sin—which we define as rebellion against God or defiance of His will and purpose for our lives—no longer controls or characterizes us.

Becoming a child of God does not mean life’s problems disappear. The issues of needing a job, being betrayed, having an illness, being the defendant in a frivolous lawsuit, being the victim of fraud, or some other pressing matter may not be resolved right away.

Mr. Blind Man was blessed to miraculously receive his sight on the same day he met Jesus. If we focus only on Mr. Blind Man’s outcome, we may get the wrong idea that the kind of healing he received is also guaranteed to us. If so, we will become disappointed when Jesus’ healing for us looks differently than what we expected or asked for.

What healing in mind, body, or spirit are you waiting for? Pray that God will give you new eyes to see the ways He will heal you.

About this Plan

Say Yes When Life Says No

When life says no to you, what could make you say yes? We need help to find our yes when our no becomes overwhelming. The resolve of the blind man in John 9 invites us to believe God’s ultimate truth: He knows and cares about our plight. Trust Jesus to show up and give us His best. Christ can turn our life’s course, and teach our hearts to say yes!
