Experiencing God In College Sample

Experiencing God In College

DAY 2 OF 5

“What’s the absolute worst thing that can happen?”

“I trip and fall and my notes go everywhere on stage, and I have to put them all back in order and look like an idiot.”

“But would you still find out you’re okay? That God would still have you? Could you radically accept that?”

“I suppose so.”

I have many friends who are also therapists. I’m not sure what that says about me. Either I need a lot of help, or I simply run with those who help others. Or both. Either way, I’ve learned a ton from counselors. Including the fact that they are always addressing the fear of failure.

Fearing failure was in the back of my mind throughout college: What if I blow this presentation and look like an idiot? What if I can’t get the internship I need? What if I fail at any number of these classes? What if I graduate and can’t find a job for months? (This did happen. I waited for months, and then I got a job. I found out God was with me the whole time.)

Often my friend/counselor will ask me to go to the worst case scenario when I’m afraid. Could I accept that the very thing I fear might happen? Once I can accept the worst, I am free to try my best .

But the only reason I can fully accept the worst possible outcome is because of who God is: God has me. God is with me. God is in control and has a good plan for me. God wants me to be like his Son, and that means I may need to walk through some very dark valleys like he did; but it also means I will come out with life on the other side, like e did.

What are you afraid of today? What failures plague you? What if they really did come true? Can you trust God that he would still be at work, through his love and grace, to make you more like his Son? Yes, you can. Trust God with your life today.
