God Ideas Benefit Others

The first thing we must understand about God ideas is that they are meant to benefit others. Before I understood the grace of God, I did the Christian thing mostly because I thought it would benefit me. I thought God was in the business of making people successful and happy if they simply impressed Him enough. When I finally encountered God’s grace though, my thinking began to change. As God’s love poured into my heart, my internal prayer changed from, “God, bless me so that I can be happy,” to something more along the lines of Psalm 67:1-2.

“God be gracious to us and bless us, and cause His face to shine upon us. That Your way may be known on the earth, Your salvation among all nations.”

God desires His love, spiritual blessings, and provision to flow through us and affect others for the sake of the kingdom. So, if He gives us ideas that seem to improve our situations, those ideas are meant for greater purposes than we may assume at first. They are meant to expand our ability to share the love of God with others.

Jesus could have used His ministry, signs, and popularity to procure a heap of wealth or power for Himself, yet His actions proved His heart for the lost. He understood that God’s plan for His life involved a much greater purpose than simply finding worldly success. Because of His unparalleled connection to the will of God, He lived His entire life sacrificially—loving others every chance He got. To be a disciple means to follow in the footsteps of Jesus—to do what Jesus did. Jesus did what He saw the Father doing, and God has the same plan in mind for His children.

When we’re looking for those ideas that line up with God’s will and plan, one question we always need to ask is: Does this idea show love to others? Does this idea help God’s ways be known on the earth? Does it provide chances to share the good news of salvation to the nations? God ideas connect hurting people to the love of Jesus.
