Motivation For Men – Keeping It Pure

DAY 4 OF 30

“Flight and Pursuit”

There are obviously aspects of sexual temptation that are more intense during young adulthood, but regardless of our age, none of us are immune. We flee something when we see it to be a clear and present danger. With practice, we can come to understand the situations, circumstances and emotions which may act as "triggers" to lustful behavior, and we can train ourselves to respond with God's word.

As important as it is to be on the defensive, what is even more important is what we are pursuing. We are to pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, things which will not only help us overcome temptation, but more importantly will help us to become more like God. The goal of holiness is not some kind of stoic absence of evil, but rather the removal of things which would get in the way of God's glory and presence flooding our lives. Nature abhors a vacuum; if we cannot be empty, let us fill ourselves with the right things.

Moreover, this pursuit is not a solitary endeavor; God intends for us to pursue these with others who have the same purity of heart and godly intent. Let's not forget the "one another" aspect of our faith, as the sharing of our lives with each other is part of what brings God's light more fully into our lives.
