DAY 5 OF 7

Obey your Thirst

Marina M.

Did you know that water transports nutrients to your body? Water also regulates your body temperature and aids in the removal of waste from your body! I don’t know about you, but throughout my busy days I suddenly want a refreshing cup of H2O!

As a former college basketball player, I’ve experienced many moments of extreme thirst. Highly strenuous, physical activity left me hunched over and fatigued at the final whistle—on the verge of dehydration. I remember grasping my water bottle, knowing refreshment would come soon.

There comes a point in your life when you wait for the whistle to blow, maybe for a water break due to extreme thirst, a time-out due to exhaustion, or an opportunity to regroup and come up with a “play” or plan. Or, in silence, after the fading high of victory, there is a thirst in your spirit. A time comes when the void can no longer be filled with the busyness of our own doing or from a system set up to distract and exhaust you. A moment when you whisper to yourself, “There has to be more to life than this.”

Two thousands years ago, a woman found herself saying the same phrase. She was going to a well looking for water. She felt trapped in a life where she had been looking for love, meaning, significance, and fulfillment in the wrong places. She had mistakenly relied on men who could not satisfy her deepest needs.

But, on that day, she encountered the author of life—the creator of water! She met someone who gave her a different type of water. This water fills you up in such a way that you will not be able to contain the spring of living water welling up to eternal life.

Often, we don’t allow ourselves to think about how much we are in desperate need of the living water that comes from Jesus. The water from the well of this world around us equates to mere sips on the sideline. We need to call a full “time out!” Today—this day—obey your thirst. Our spirit yearns to reconnect with our Father! Jesus is the source of fresh, flowing water—water that revives, refreshes, and never runs dry!

Prayer

Lord Jesus, you are the Living Water. I come to you thirsty, ready to obey and receive you. Fill me up!

About this Plan

Trainsformers—An Urban Christian Journey

Do you live in a big city? Does your heart break when you see so much need around you? If we truly want to transform our cities, we must start by allowing God to change us first. God’s Word is living and active; it judges thoughts and attitudes. Allow God’s Word to lead you into a transforming journey through the Scriptures.
