[Psalms] Why We Need to SingSample
The Right Thing to Do
There are four reasons why it is important that we sing to the Lord.
The first reason is that singing grows our vision of God. The second reason is that it softens our heart and it firms our resolve.
Number three: Singing is the right thing to do. Praising God is the right thing to do—which is foolish to say in America these days, because we do what we want to do. However, praising God through song is the right thing to do.
The book of Revelation says the Lord is worthy! If you are going to be a good husband, a good wife, a good friend, a good employee or employer, you are going to have to do things because it is the right thing to do whether you feel it or not.
You show me any employee that only works when they want to and not when it is the right thing to do, and I will show you a sorry employee. You show me a parent who does not do things just because it is the right thing to do, but only does what they want to do, and I will show you a sorry mom and dad. The Lord is worthy of your praise. Period. We need to be adults about it. We are going to do what is right even if it is not what is easy.
The number four reason why we sing is that it unifies us as a people and as a Church. After they took the Lord’s Supper, they sang a hymn and they went to the Mount of Olives where Jesus was arrested. They were unified in their singing as they went out to a troublesome time.
Think about a baseball game. The seventh inning stretch. Everybody stands up and sings, “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” At an Astro’s game, we sing, “Deep in the heart of Texas.” The Red Sox fans sing, “Sweet Caroline.”
I mean, it is a unifying event that has a purpose in each game. You may go to a college football game and when they sing the fight song, you suddenly feel part of a greater call: “We’re all here to support our team.”
Singing together with your church might not make you think alike, but it will open your eyes to see that you are a part of the Great Kingdom of God.

About this Plan
It does not matter if you are a good singer. Praising is what matters. Not the vocal cords, but the cords of your heart. If you are a bad worshiper, that is a problem. If you do not give God praise, it will affect your way of life. Praise is about your heart before the Lord of singing to God, not just singing about God.
