Springforth: A 5-Day Daily DevotionalSample
The Overflow
“Listen to this message from the Lord! This is what the Lord says: By this time tomorrow in the markets of Samaria, six quarts of choice flour will cost only one piece of silver, and twelve quarts of barley grain will cost only one piece of silver.” - 2 Kings 7:1 NLT
I remember looking for a job several years ago; I did everything I could to find the perfect job. I updated my resume (CV) to give it an official, authentic, and professional look. I emailed every company I could think of, and then I got off the couch and began hand delivering my CV to companies. I dressed up and walked into offices confidently with a smile on my face only to be rejected. The more effort I put in, the more the rejections came. I was experiencing a drought; it was a desert no one else could see or feel until the day the Lord spoke to me with 2 Kings 7. Right before that encounter, I had been fasting and soaking myself in worship. Though I was fed up, I decided to praise my way through. I had exhausted myself praying so much, but my prayers were about my wants and not about His desires for my life; even with my many tears, there were no results.
At some point, I was reminded that even if He did not do it, He would still be God, a perfect God at that. So I decided not to stress about it any longer. I surrendered it all and praised Him just because HE IS GOD. That night, the Lord spoke to me and He said “By this time tomorrow.” I was taken to the book of 2 Kings 7: 3-11, where the lepers were at the point of death due to hunger. The Lord opened a door that they would not have ever imagined. He caused the Aramean army to literally go crazy! They began hearing things, panicked, and ran for safety – leaving everything behind.
The lepers were able to go into the camp where they ate, drank, took silver, gold, and so much more that they decided to go and tell the gatekeepers what happened. The overflow was beyond what they could handle, so they began to tell others of the Lord’s blessings.
This word empowered me so much that I arose the next morning singing and dancing. Three hours later, a call came in from one of the companies that had previously rejected me and asked if I was still interested in the position. Apparently, a mistake had been made, and they wanted to hire me. They not only hired me, I was given a position that was beyond my expectation, a position I wasn’t even qualified for! Just like that, God did it.
I want to encourage and remind you today that God is still there for you, and His overflow is awaiting you. He’s able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that you can think or ask. But you must trust Him, the process, and His greatness.
Let Us Pray:
Dear Lord, I thank You because You love me and are always thinking about me. Lord help me to always remember that You love me, You care for me and You are always thinking about me. Thank You for Your overflow even when it seems that I am lacking. Bring me to the fullness of who You are. In Jesus' name. Amen.
