Dawn Is Coming
Dawn is the breaking of a new day. It’s the promise fulfilled. It’s the beauty in a new start. The Bible promises us this glorious new day, but what about now? What about the in-between, when we feel shrouded in darkness? The days filled with brokeness and heartache? What do we do while we wait for this new day that can feel so far away?
Yes, we’re told there will come a time when Christ is revealed and all is set right, but what if God wants to reveal His Son in us, now, not just at the end of time? Dawn isn’t just an event in time, it’s a whole new state of mind. As we navigate an imperfect world and find ourselves waiting in the “already but not yet,” here is what we can do:
Name the Pain
Be real. Be honest. Peter wrote this book to every Jesus follower because he knew what we needed to know: suffering is coming. It’s not sexy but it’s true, so call it for what it is. But here is the key–as we name it, we need to use the language God gave us: “A little trial.” It may not seem this way on the surface, but compared to the joy awaiting us in heaven and the powerful testimony our perseverance can create here on earth, it's a mere speed bump."
Act as Though
Act as though you have a dang clue why you hurt like you hurt. The Bible says one day we will know, even as we are known. One day we will understand why the trial came. Why the tragedy struck. Why we picked up the phone to the devastating news. Why we got the diagnosis. But today? Today we praise Him like we will when it’s all been revealed. Choose to act as though that day of revelation is now, and praise him through the heartache. The brightest colors don’t happen at sunrise, they happen right before light illuminates the path around us. So even here, before dawn comes, we can proclaim, “You are good and you do all things well.”
Just as you can’t stop the dawn from coming, Peter shows us the unbelievable, inexpressible, wonders of Jesus coming. Not only in this world, but also into your circumstance if you invite Him in.
