Signposts To Christ From IsaiahSample

This passage has been used and re-used to speak of a transformed society. It was first used by Isaiah to announce to the Judean exiles in Babylon that God would bring them back home to the land of Israel. God would make a highway to bring them home.
The same words are echoed in the New Testament to refer to the announcement of John the Baptist in the new work of God (Matthew 3:3). Through Jesus Christ, God was bringing his people “home”, to restore right relationship. The message of Jesus is good news for those that have been alienated from God.
The same words have been echoed over the centuries to announce hope of a transformed society. They were used by Martin Luther King, Jr (despite his personal failings), to imagine a racially unified society in 1960s North America.
Question: What vision for society do we find in Christ?

About this Plan

Throughout the Old Testament we can see signposts that point us to Jesus Christ. The book of Isaiah offers numerous such signposts. Reading Isaiah through the eyes of the New Testament can give us new insights into the life of Jesus, and also to the life of discipleship to which we are called.
