Creatures of Habit: Confession

DAY 7 OF 7

Confession: The Hope of The Habit

When we confess the darkness within us, we are freed to walk in the light. In the light we are free to have fellowship with one another and eternally with God. This is the hope of the habit of confession!

“God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin” (1 John 1: 5-7).

In God there is no darkness at all. Can you even take in what that means?! No darkness. And those of us who claim to have fellowship with God are called to have no part in darkness, but to walk in the light, as he is in the light. That can feel like a daunting, impossible task. And it is, if we are trying to do it on our own. But we are not on our own, and that is the point!

Jesus is our hope.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23). We do not have to live in darkness. Death is not the end of our story. There is hope, there is freedom, there is healing, here and now and still to come, because of Jesus.

So, let’s get real, because there is not a moment to waste. Death is not our story, and why would we ever want it to be? The offer is eternal life with God. No more darkness, no more pain, no more suffering. Our story is life and light. Our story is the gift of life in Jesus. What’s holding you back?

Today we leave you with this blessing. May the God of light, shine the light of his love upon you, covering you with his peace and grace.

Read 1 John 1 in its entirety. You might even want to read it a few times. It’s that good!
