Planting Seeds
Our prayer life is like planting seeds for a harvest. We have to know what it is we are asking for. Sometimes, if we are honest, we aren’t really even sure of what it is we want. We can’t toss random seeds into the ground and hope that something might grow. First we have to take care of the soil. That’s what daily conversation with God looks like. Tilling the groundwork of our hearts. Staying connected, and when the time for planting seeds comes, we will better understand the voice of God because we have been listening for it. Psalm 86:11 (NKJV) says, “teach me your way, O Lord, I will walk in Your truth.” When we don’t know what to pray, this is a beautiful reminder that we can just quiet our minds and listen for God’s instruction.
Waiting is the watering and nurturing of our planted harvest. We can’t stare at the ground the minute we plant a seed and demand that it instantly grow. Like the farmer, we want to have full faith that when the time is right, our crop will grow and we will have a fruitful harvest. The answers will come. The time and attention we give to the soil is not one of doubt that it will ever grow, but rather, one of love and tender care. One of cultivating the land and nurturing our relationship with God.
When we have clarity in our asking, and the seeds have been sown, there are some promises we can rest in. As you read today in Matthew 7:7-11, take note of each promise you can find. I counted 6 in my reading time and whenever I feel doubt starting to creep in, I refer back to these in confidence that God knows exactly what I need and will show me the way.

About this Plan
I have been in that season of waiting many times in my life, and it’s not easy. There is a space between asking and receiving that God calls us to periodically. In a world that tells us we should be striving to find the answers, scripture tells us a different story. Join me as we learn to rest in the waiting.
