Wisdom Makes A WaySample
Wisdom At The Crossroads
Life is filled with crossroads. Decisions. Choices. Which way do I go?
Big decisions such as: moving to a new house, changing career, relocating to a different city or country, who to marry, starting a business, or doing what’s right when no one is looking. We need wisdom to make good choices, especially when the outcomes aren’t obvious or easily foreseen.
"Listen as Wisdom calls out! Hear as understanding raises her voice! On the hilltop along the road, she takes her stand at the crossroads." Proverbs 8:1-2 (NLT)
Wisdom is characterized as a ‘Lady’ or a righteous woman who is ready and waiting, calling out on every highway and byway for anyone who will listen to her.
Wisdom’s instruction is clear; her truth is undeniable, and her judgment is sound. The first nine chapters of Proverbs spends much of its discourse contrasting ‘Lady Wisdom’ and ‘Madam Folly’. Even though these women are personifications and not actual women, it is just as true that a flirtation or ‘fling’ with Madam Folly is equally as devastating as any illicit liaison.
It is Madam Folly’s goal to lead you astray, persuade you to make foolish choices and shipwreck your life. An impulsive or rash decision can set you on a destructive course. Just like king Saul, too often people take matters into their own hands, reacting impulsively, stepping into a situation or relationship without any regard for wisdom. Subsequently, they are faced with years of consequence and desperate attempts to put their life back together.
Madam Folly makes comfort-driven decisions, not calling-inspired decisions. She makes decisions that succumb to temptation and react without regard to counsel or consequence. Don’t make short-sighted decisions, underestimating their impact upon you and others. Foolish decisions will mess up your life. When you are confused and don’t know what to do, which decision to make or what path to choose, cry out to God and ask Him for wisdom.
Remember, He promises to give it to you without question. So, why wouldn’t you ask?
Never underestimate the need for wisdom at each crossroad in your life. Remember, the Bible says that wisdom will ‘build the house’. Those who love wisdom, will be loved by wisdom in return.
"I love all who love me.Those who search will surely find me." Proverbs 8:17 (NLT)
PRAYER:
Thank you, Father, for making wisdom so readily available to me. Your wisdom makes a way; it opens doors, enables me to navigate challenges and acts as a compass to my life. I find wisdom in Your Word, through the voice of the Holy Spirit, through my time alone with you and through godly counsel. I ask You for wisdom to frame my choices at every crossroad of life.
