HEAL - God's Heart for Healing in MatthewSample
Authority to Heal
In the military, commanders delegate authority to those serving under them. For certain tasks, these subordinates are allowed to act and make decisions without seeking approval from higher headquarters.
In this passage, Jesus delegated authority to the 12 disciples to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness. Can you imagine having that kind of power? When humbly submitted to Jesus’ authority, the disciples were able to do miracles and heal people by the power of Jesus.
Questions:
1. Why do you think Jesus gave the disciples the authority to drive out demons and heal the sick?
2. Do you believe Jesus still gives that authority today?
3. What do you think Jesus means when he says the kingdom of heaven is near?
