How I Got Closer to GodSample
YOU CAN TRUST HIM
Some people don’t want to be any closer to God than they already are. They’re afraid of that much intimacy, of baring their soul to someone, letting them see all the good, the bad, and the ugly inside. Because, chances are that they’ve been hurt and they have trouble trusting.
But you can trust God. He’s not like other people who have let you down or made fun of you. He’s your heavenly Father and He loves you unconditionally. You must understand how trustworthy God is if you want to become closer to Him. You don’t have to hold Him at arm’s length. You can trust Him.
Some people think God will ask them to do something hard or do something they don’t want to do. They might say something like: “If I turn my life over to God, He might make me be a missionary to Africa, and I don’t want to go!”
But God doesn’t make us do anything. In Jeremiah 29:11, He says, “I know the plans I have for you…plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (NIV). God has a plan for your life, and it’s a good plan, not a bad plan! It’s a plan that uses all your passions, all your giftings—a plan that will make you happier than you ever imagined. There’s nothing better than walking in God’s plan for your life.
But He’s not going to make you do the plan. He is going to anoint you and give you giftings and personality traits that make you perfect for the plan, and He will prompt you and do His best to guide you into it. But He will always leave it up to you.
Anytime He asks you to do anything, it’s only for your good. You are not His puppet, someone to be pulled and prodded to do His bidding at a whim. You are His beloved child, and He wants only the best for you. He’s not like other people who may have their own agenda for your life. His only agenda is to bless you. Period.

About this Plan
When my first husband died suddenly at age 37 it rocked my world. It was the worst time in my life but it was also the best time because I got closer to God than ever before. I spent so much time with Him that I truly fell in love with Him. Let these seven lessons lead you, too, into a deeper relationship with God than ever before.
