GO2020 | ENGAGE: January Week 2 - WORDSample
January 21
Read
John 1:1-14
Isaiah 53:4-12
Reflect
Jesus’s name is spoken so often, in so many contexts—in songs, in prayer, as a curse word, as a part of a joke. It’s possible to become so familiar with Jesus’s name that we forget who Jesus is. Even his earliest followers—the men who lived alongside him—had to be taught to understand his identity. Today’s two Scripture passages describe who Jesus really is. As you reread them, imagine that you’re meeting him for the first time. Listen to him tell you about himself.
Engage
Reread the Scripture passages. You’ve now read them two days in a row. Does anything stand out to you differently than it did yesterday? Consider the ENGAGE questions again. Don’t be afraid of the repetition. We learn more about God each time we read and reread his Word.
· What do they say about God?
· What do they say about us?
· Is there a promise to trust?
· Is there a command to obey?
· How will I apply these Scriptures to my life?
· Who will I show that I care by sharing this truth?
Memorize
Now read this week’s memory verse, John 17:3. Spend a few minutes working to memorize it.

About this Plan
What is the good news? Jesus offered his followers a full and fulfilling life, one that would not only last into eternity, but have eternal significance. He called it an “abundant” life, and he claimed that he was the only source of that life.
