Destroying Fear: A Five-Day Devotional Sample
Going on the Run—Like Elijah
All over the world, people are gripped by the spirit of fear. Fear paralyzes our purpose and destiny and eats up every desire that God has placed in our hearts. The enemy knows that when we are walking in our calling, we are dangerous to his mission. He will, therefore, do everything he can with the arsenal he has to prevent that from occurring. Fear is his strongest weapon, and he is not afraid to use it.
Do you remember the story of Elijah, the prophet who called on God to bring fire from heaven? This spectacular miracle ended in the killing of 450 prophets of Baal for all to see. God performed mighty miracles that day that people are still talking about thousands of years later.
But the story did not stop there. Those false prophets were servants of Queen Jezebel. When Jezebel heard that all her prophets had been destroyed with the sword, she sent word to Elijah that she was going to take his life.
This man, even after such a victory, was so gripped by fear that he went on the run. Not only had fear taken over his life, but deep depression kicked in, all the way to the point of suicidal thoughts. Elijah asked God to destroy him.
At that moment he seemed unredeemable, but God sent an angel to refresh and feed him. Elijah was able to finish his race. And today we are still reading his story of hope and redemption.
The Lord Jesus Christ can set you free from anything. As He did for Elijah, He will do for you. The cross is available to all. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can bring down the walls and idols of self-image that we have created as a safety net, knowing they are a lie because the devil is the only one laughing.
As believers, we will have the last laugh, through the Holy Spirit, and be set free once and for all. Thank You, Jesus.
Declare This throughout Your Day: I declare in Jesus’ name that no weapon formed against me shall prosper.
Reflection Questions: What causes you the most fear? Are you able to trust Jesus to set you free from that fear? Why or why not?
About this Plan
There is a reason why Jesus commands His children throughout Scripture not to worry. Fear is crippling, and it crowds out the voice of our Savior. The devil knows this and uses fear to keep us from walking in freedom. It is time to give the demon of fear an eviction notice. Shake off the paralyzing voice of fear and build your faith with new conviction.
