Does God Seem Far Away?Sample
JESUS PAID THE PRICE
The Old Testament Law was a ministry of wrath, and all our sins were held against us (Romans 4:15; 2 Corinthians 3:7, 9). This separation between God and His beloved humans could only be rectified by the shedding of perfect blood. The blood of animals would never be enough; their blood only covered sin, it couldn’t wash sin away.
This is the scenario into which God sent His Son—Jesus, the Christ. When Jesus hung on the Cross, God placed all the sin of mankind upon Him. This forever satisfied God’s wrath. Jesus’ blood has washed us clean from sin and made us white as snow (Isaiah 1:18).
By shedding His blood for us on the Cross, Jesus paid the price for our sin (1 Peter 2:24), and God quit holding it against us. God imputed our sins to Jesus. Jesus became what we were so we could become what He was—the righteousness of God.
Think about that! He took it all for us—He was our substitute. He got what we deserved. We could never be good enough to get back into fellowship with God, but Jesus has done it for us.
The day Jesus hung on the Cross the most amazing thing happened! Matthew 27:50-51 says that as He was dying, “Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked.”
That veil in the Holy Temple, which had stood between God and man for 4,000 years separating the Father from His beloved creation, was torn in two! It was gone! Forevermore, you and I and all of God’s family can walk right into His presence in the Holy of Holies.
Jesus’ death removed the veil—the sin that had separated all of us from God. That one act, the summation of God’s plan, means we are reunited with our heavenly Father.
Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection marked the end of God’s war on sin. The victory has been won! God made a way to restore fellowship forever through the blood of His precious Son.
