         <div class="label">8</div><div class="s1"><span class="heading">Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand</span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v1" data-usfm="MRK.8.1"><span class="label">1</span><span class="content">During those days another large crowd gathered. Since they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and said, </span></span><span class="verse v2" data-usfm="MRK.8.2"><span class="label">2</span><span class="wj"><span class="content">&#8220;I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat.</span></span><span class="content"> </span></span><span class="verse v3" data-usfm="MRK.8.3"><span class="label">3</span><span class="wj"><span class="content">If I send them home hungry, they will collapse on the way, because some of them have come a long distance.&#8221;</span></span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v3" data-usfm="MRK.8.3"></span><span class="verse v4" data-usfm="MRK.8.4"><span class="label">4</span><span class="content">His disciples answered, &#8220;But where in this remote place can anyone get enough bread to feed them?&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v4" data-usfm="MRK.8.4"></span><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="MRK.8.5"><span class="label">5</span><span class="content"> </span><span class="wj"><span class="content">&#8220;How many loaves do you have?&#8221;</span></span><span class="content"> Jesus asked.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="MRK.8.5"><span class="content">&#8220;Seven,&#8221; they replied.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="MRK.8.5"></span><span class="verse v6" data-usfm="MRK.8.6"><span class="label">6</span><span class="content">He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. When he had taken the seven loaves and given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people, and they did so. </span></span><span class="verse v7" data-usfm="MRK.8.7"><span class="label">7</span><span class="content">They had a few small fish as well; he gave thanks for them also and told the disciples to distribute them. </span></span><span class="verse v8" data-usfm="MRK.8.8"><span class="label">8</span><span class="content">The people ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. </span></span><span class="verse v9" data-usfm="MRK.8.9"><span class="label">9</span><span class="content">About four thousand were present. After he had sent them away, </span></span><span class="verse v10" data-usfm="MRK.8.10"><span class="label">10</span><span class="content">he got into the boat with his disciples and went to the region of Dalmanutha.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v10" data-usfm="MRK.8.10"></span><span class="verse v11" data-usfm="MRK.8.11"><span class="label">11</span><span class="content">The Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test him, they asked him for a sign from heaven. </span></span><span class="verse v12" data-usfm="MRK.8.12"><span class="label">12</span><span class="content">He sighed deeply and said, </span><span class="wj"><span class="content">&#8220;Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to it.&#8221;</span></span><span class="content"> </span></span><span class="verse v13" data-usfm="MRK.8.13"><span class="label">13</span><span class="content">Then he left them, got back into the boat and crossed to the other side.</span></span></div><div class="s1"><span class="heading">The Yeast of the Pharisees and Herod</span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v13" data-usfm="MRK.8.13"></span><span class="verse v14" data-usfm="MRK.8.14"><span class="label">14</span><span class="content">The disciples had forgotten to bring bread, except for one loaf they had with them in the boat. </span></span><span class="verse v15" data-usfm="MRK.8.15"><span class="label">15</span><span class="wj"><span class="content">&#8220;Be careful,&#8221;</span></span><span class="content"> Jesus warned them. </span><span class="wj"><span class="content">&#8220;Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and that of Herod.&#8221;</span></span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v15" data-usfm="MRK.8.15"></span><span class="verse v16" data-usfm="MRK.8.16"><span class="label">16</span><span class="content">They discussed this with one another and said, &#8220;It is because we have no bread.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v16" data-usfm="MRK.8.16"></span><span class="verse v17" data-usfm="MRK.8.17"><span class="label">17</span><span class="content">Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked them: </span><span class="wj"><span class="content">&#8220;Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened?</span></span><span class="content"> </span></span><span class="verse v18" data-usfm="MRK.8.18"><span class="label">18</span><span class="wj"><span class="content">Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don&#8217;t you remember?</span></span><span class="content"> </span></span><span class="verse v19" data-usfm="MRK.8.19"><span class="label">19</span><span class="wj"><span class="content">When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?&#8221;</span></span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v19" data-usfm="MRK.8.19"><span class="content">&#8220;Twelve,&#8221; they replied.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v19" data-usfm="MRK.8.19"></span><span class="verse v20" data-usfm="MRK.8.20"><span class="label">20</span><span class="content"> </span><span class="wj"><span class="content">&#8220;And when I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?&#8221;</span></span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v20" data-usfm="MRK.8.20"><span class="content">They answered, &#8220;Seven.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v20" data-usfm="MRK.8.20"></span><span class="verse v21" data-usfm="MRK.8.21"><span class="label">21</span><span class="content">He said to them, </span><span class="wj"><span class="content">&#8220;Do you still not understand?&#8221;</span></span></span></div><div class="s1"><span class="heading">Jesus Heals a Blind Man at Bethsaida</span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v21" data-usfm="MRK.8.21"></span><span class="verse v22" data-usfm="MRK.8.22"><span class="label">22</span><span class="content">They came to Bethsaida, and some people brought a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him. </span></span><span class="verse v23" data-usfm="MRK.8.23"><span class="label">23</span><span class="content">He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit on the man&#8217;s eyes and put his hands on him, Jesus asked, </span><span class="wj"><span class="content">&#8220;Do you see anything?&#8221;</span></span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v23" data-usfm="MRK.8.23"></span><span class="verse v24" data-usfm="MRK.8.24"><span class="label">24</span><span class="content">He looked up and said, &#8220;I see people; they look like trees walking around.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v24" data-usfm="MRK.8.24"></span><span class="verse v25" data-usfm="MRK.8.25"><span class="label">25</span><span class="content">Once more Jesus put his hands on the man&#8217;s eyes. </span></span><span class="verse v16" data-usfm="ROM.8.16"><span class="label">16</span><span class="content">The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God&#8217;s children. </span></span><span class="verse v17" data-usfm="ROM.8.17"><span class="label">17</span><span class="content">Now if we are children, then we are heirs&#8212;heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.</span></span></div><div class="s1"><span class="heading">Present Suffering and Future Glory</span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v17" data-usfm="ROM.8.17"></span><span class="verse v18" data-usfm="ROM.8.18"><span class="label">18</span><span class="content">I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. </span></span><span class="verse v19" data-usfm="ROM.8.19"><span class="label">19</span><span class="content">For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. </span></span><span class="verse v20" data-usfm="ROM.8.20"><span class="label">20</span><span class="content">For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope </span></span><span class="verse v21" data-usfm="ROM.8.21"><span class="label">21</span><span class="content">that</span><span class="note f"><span class="label">#</span><span class="body"><span class="fr">8:20,21 </span><span class="ft">Or </span><span class="fqa">subjected it in hope. </span><span class="fv">21 </span><span class="fqa">For</span></span></span><span class="content"> the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v21" data-usfm="ROM.8.21"></span><span class="verse v22" data-usfm="ROM.8.22"><span class="label">22</span><span class="content">We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. </span></span><span class="verse v23" data-usfm="ROM.8.23"><span class="label">23</span><span class="content">Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. </span></span><span class="verse v24" data-usfm="ROM.8.24"><span class="label">24</span><span class="content">For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? </span></span><span class="verse v25" data-usfm="ROM.8.25"><span class="label">25</span><span class="content">But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v25" data-usfm="ROM.8.25"></span><span class="verse v26" data-usfm="ROM.8.26"><span class="label">26</span><span class="content">In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. </span></span><span class="verse v27" data-usfm="ROM.8.27"><span class="label">27</span><span class="content">And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God&#8217;s people in accordance with the will of God.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v27" data-usfm="ROM.8.27"></span><span class="verse v28" data-usfm="ROM.8.28"><span class="label">28</span><span class="content">And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who</span><span class="note f"><span class="label">#</span><span class="body"><span class="fr">8:28 </span><span class="ft">Or </span><span class="fqa">that all things work together for good to those who love God, who</span><span class="ft">; or </span><span class="fqa">that in all things God works together with those who love him to bring about what is good&#8212;with those who</span></span></span><span class="content"> have been called according to his purpose. </span></span><span class="verse v29" data-usfm="ROM.8.29"><span class="label">29</span><span class="content">For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. </span></span><span class="verse v30" data-usfm="ROM.8.30"><span class="label">30</span><span class="content">And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.</span></span></div><div class="s1"><span class="heading">More Than Conquerors</span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v30" data-usfm="ROM.8.30"></span><span class="verse v31" data-usfm="ROM.8.31"><span class="label">31</span><span class="content">What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? </span></span><span class="verse v32" data-usfm="ROM.8.32"><span class="label">32</span><span class="content">He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all&#8212;how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? </span></span><span class="verse v33" data-usfm="ROM.8.33"><span class="label">33</span><span class="content">Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. </span></span><span class="verse v34" data-usfm="ROM.8.34"><span class="label">34</span><span class="content">Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died&#8212;more than that, who was raised to life&#8212;is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. </span></span><span class="verse v35" data-usfm="ROM.8.35"><span class="label">35</span><span class="content">Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? </span></span><span class="verse v36" data-usfm="ROM.8.36"><span class="label">36</span><span class="content">As it is written:</span></span></div><div class="q1"><span class="verse v36" data-usfm="ROM.8.36"><span class="content">&#8220;For your sake we face death all day long;</span></span></div><div class="q2"><span class="verse v36" data-usfm="ROM.8.36"><span class="content">we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.&#8221;</span><span class="note f"><span class="label">#</span><span class="body"><span class="fr">8:36 </span><span class="ft"><span class="ref" usfm="PSA.44.22">Psalm 44:22</span></span></span></span></span></div><div class="m"><span class="verse v36" data-usfm="ROM.8.36"></span><span class="verse v37" data-usfm="ROM.8.37"><span class="label">37</span><span class="content">No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. </span></span><span class="verse v38" data-usfm="ROM.8.38"><span class="label">38</span><span class="content">For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,</span><span class="note f"><span class="label">#</span><span class="body"><span class="fr">8:38 </span><span class="ft">Or </span><span class="fqa">nor heavenly rulers</span></span></span><span class="content"> neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, </span></span><span class="verse v39" data-usfm="ROM.8.39"><span class="label">39</span><span class="content">neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.</span></span></div>

         <div class="label">14</div><div class="s1"><span class="heading">The Lamb and the 144,000</span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v1" data-usfm="REV.14.1"><span class="label">1</span><span class="content">Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father&#8217;s name written on their foreheads. </span></span><span class="verse v2" data-usfm="REV.14.2"><span class="label">2</span><span class="content">And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps. </span></span><span class="verse v3" data-usfm="REV.14.3"><span class="label">3</span><span class="content">And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. </span></span><span class="verse v4" data-usfm="REV.14.4"><span class="label">4</span><span class="content">These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they remained virgins. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among mankind and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb. </span></span><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="REV.14.5"><span class="label">5</span><span class="content">No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless.</span></span></div><div class="s1"><span class="heading">The Three Angels</span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="REV.14.5"></span><span class="verse v6" data-usfm="REV.14.6"><span class="label">6</span><span class="content">Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth&#8212;to every nation, tribe, language and people. </span></span><span class="verse v7" data-usfm="REV.14.7"><span class="label">7</span><span class="content">He said in a loud voice, &#8220;Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v7" data-usfm="REV.14.7"></span><span class="verse v8" data-usfm="REV.14.8"><span class="label">8</span><span class="content">A second angel followed and said, &#8220;&#8198;&#8216;Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great,&#8217;</span><span class="note f"><span class="label">#</span><span class="body"><span class="fr">14:8 </span><span class="ft"><span class="ref" usfm="ISA.21.9">Isaiah 21:9</span></span></span></span><span class="content"> which made all the nations drink the maddening wine of her adulteries.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v8" data-usfm="REV.14.8"></span><span class="verse v9" data-usfm="REV.14.9"><span class="label">9</span><span class="content">A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: &#8220;If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives its mark on their forehead or on their hand, </span></span><span class="verse v10" data-usfm="REV.14.10"><span class="label">10</span><span class="content">they, too, will drink the wine of God&#8217;s fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. They will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. </span></span><span class="verse v11" data-usfm="REV.14.11"><span class="label">11</span><span class="content">And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.&#8221; </span></span><span class="verse v12" data-usfm="REV.14.12"><span class="label">12</span><span class="content">This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and remain faithful to Jesus.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v12" data-usfm="REV.14.12"></span><span class="verse v13" data-usfm="REV.14.13"><span class="label">13</span><span class="content">Then I heard a voice from heaven say, &#8220;Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v13" data-usfm="REV.14.13"><span class="content">&#8220;Yes,&#8221; says the Spirit, &#8220;they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="s1"><span class="heading">Harvesting the Earth and Trampling the Winepress</span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v13" data-usfm="REV.14.13"></span><span class="verse v14" data-usfm="REV.14.14"><span class="label">14</span><span class="content">I looked, and there before me was a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was one like a son of man</span><span class="note f"><span class="label">#</span><span class="body"><span class="fr">14:14 </span><span class="ft">See <span class="ref" usfm="DAN.7.13">Daniel 7:13</span>.</span></span></span><span class="content"> with a crown of gold on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. </span></span><span class="verse v15" data-usfm="REV.14.15"><span class="label">15</span><span class="content">Then another angel came out of the temple and called in a loud voice to him who was sitting on the cloud, &#8220;Take your sickle and reap, because the time to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.&#8221; </span></span><span class="verse v16" data-usfm="REV.14.16"><span class="label">16</span><span class="content">So he who was seated on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v16" data-usfm="REV.14.16"></span><span class="verse v17" data-usfm="REV.14.17"><span class="label">17</span><span class="content">Another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle. </span></span><span class="verse v18" data-usfm="REV.14.18"><span class="label">18</span><span class="content">Still another angel, who had charge of the fire, came from the altar and called in a loud voice to him who had the sharp sickle, &#8220;Take your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of grapes from the earth&#8217;s vine, because its grapes are ripe.&#8221; </span></span><span class="verse v19" data-usfm="REV.14.19"><span class="label">19</span><span class="content">The angel swung his sickle on the earth, gathered its grapes and threw them into the great winepress of God&#8217;s wrath. </span></span><span class="verse v20" data-usfm="REV.14.20"><span class="label">20</span><span class="content">They were trampled in the winepress outside the city, and blood flowed out of the press, rising as high as the horses&#8217; bridles for a distance of 1,600 stadia.</span><span class="note f"><span class="label">#</span><span class="body"><span class="fr">14:20 </span><span class="ft">That is, about 180 miles or about 300 kilometers</span></span></span></span></div>
