FIRST VERSES...Sample

FIRST VERSES...

DAY 14 OF 14

And so, from Genesis 1:1 through another 12 “first verses” we arrive at the beginning of the last book of the Bible where we find God still speaking to the faithful. From the creation in verse 1 of Genesis through to the final wrapping up of history as we know it, God is in charge. Through all the ups and downs, the joys and the sufferings of human life on earth, God has always been in charge.

On the one hand, the message of Revelation is obscure and notoriously difficult to interpret, but, on the other hand, it is straightforward. Beyond all the many attempts to interpret Revelation specifically, one thing is clear: all history is God’s history. And, whatever human beings or the powers and principalities of evil get up to, God will tie up all the loose ends. History is in God’s hands and when the time comes it will come to an end … and a new beginning!

Day 13

About this Plan

FIRST VERSES...

Listen to the way the biblical authors start these 14 books, psalms and letters. What matters to them most? Where do they want to begin with their readers and hearers? From Genesis to Revelation, these verses were penned over many centuries. Allow these short passages to lead you to meditate on God’s world and God’s caring relationship with the creation.
