Prayer Basics

DAY 7 OF 7

We can’t be pessimists AND prayerful children of the Most High at the same time. The moment our lives truly change because of what happened on the cross, we become light-bearers, and when we move we bring the Light into all areas of our communities and culture (John 1:1-13). It is our love for God that moves us into a place of compassion for the world around us. This love drives us to stand in the gap. We pray for God’s kingdom to come with salvation, healing and justice, as we await Christ's return. Ephesians 6:12-18 teaches us that often the struggles of our world, the horrible things people do to each other and even our daily battles against temptation, can be overcome by standing in the opposite spirit and in prayer, fully clothed in the armour of the God.

Here is a basic ABCD for our daily battles:

Authority: Remember that we are seated with Christ in heavenly places - Ephesians 2:6-9

Blessing: In Christ, the Father has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places (Ephesians 1:3). When we pray God's blessing over a situation, we are agreeing with God and receiving what He has already paid for.

Common sense: James 1:5 says wisdom is freely given to all who ask. Sometimes wisdom is needed and practicality is the order of the day.

Discernment: The Holy Spirit helps us to discern in the spirit and even helps us to know what to pray and when to pray.  (Romans 8:26)

Dig in:

Now is the time to stand on the word of God and to bless the world around you, flooding the earth with God’s glorious light.

About this Plan

Prayer Basics

This is a seven-day Prayer Basics plan based on the Alpha prayer course by Nicky Gumbel and Pete Greig. It is the start of an adventure that will help you grow and deepen your prayer life. It’s an easy and practical journey to understand the power and beauty caught up in the Lord’s prayer, and can even be used as the baseline for a week of fasting.
