The Reset Of Our Soul
Psalm 25
I am not good at video games. Actually, I am AWFUL at video games. Many a video game has contributed to my sanctification process by exposing my pride and overly competitive nature.
But alas, I have relied on a beautiful device that has helped me tremendously. It’s gloriously called the Reset Button. When the game is not going well or downright horrible, the Reset Button is at the ready to bail you out and to start again. So where is this Reset Button for our actual lives?
As much as we may desire a Reset Button for our wrong choices, hard emotions, and shameful memories, it simply does not exist. However, what we can experience is a reset of the soul.
The 25th Psalm are the words of a man who is crying out for that very thing. That man is King David and his soul is troubled to the point where he asks God to: restrain evil (vs. 1-3), provide wisdom (vs 4-5), and forgive sin (vs 6-7). King David also acknowledges that God is: good (vs 8), loves humility (vs 9), stubbornly loving (vs 10), and desires to pardon our guilt (vs 11).
King David rehearses these truths and went back to them time and time again because he believed that the promises of God provided for his soul to abide in well-being (vs 13). Let us never discount the power of continually recalling truths about God in the resetting of our souls.
Lord, protect me from allowing my circumstances to dictate how much or how little I rely on your truth.
Family Connection: As a family, brainstorm things we can do to reset our attitudes, actions or the way we speak to one another when we are having a bad day or are grumbly or sad or angry, For example: sing praises to God, step back to humble ourselves, put a smile on our face in faith.
