DAY 61 OF 92

Who Is This God?

2 Samuel 22:2-4

Who was God to David? His rock. His fortress. His deliverer. His refuge. His shield. His salvation. His stronghold. His Savior.

David is approaching the end of his life in today’s verse (his final words are in the next chapter), and he wrote verse after verse praising God. Nothing fosters trust as much as seeing your trust well placed–and there is no one more deserving of your trust than God. The strongest trust is built upon the character of the one whom you are trusting. David’s titles for God are more than a simple knowledge of God; they show David’s past experiences with God.

Throughout his life, David saw God deliver him from danger and despair, David saw God in action as his refuge and shield. God is every bit as active in your life, providing you with refuge and serving as your shield. David’s experience with God wasn’t unique to him. That same God offers you His life and the ultimate safety of adopting you and bringing you into His life.

Are you as aware of God in your life as David? When was the last time you stopped and took notice of God’s involvement in your life? This is not just about David. God is your rock. He’s your fortress, your deliverer, your refuge, your shield, your salvation, your stronghold. And most importantly, God is your Savior.

Father, help us be more aware of your presence in our lives. Help us to lean not on our own understanding, but to trust you. Strengthen our faith. Amen.

Family Connection: David completely trusted God throughout his life. This week share a time with your family when you completely trusted God and how that benefited you. See if your child can think of a time God helped them. Then sing a song of praise to God.
