God’s Got This! – 5 Lessons from Exodus 14:12-14Sample
Day 3. “Stand firm.”
With their backs up against the wall of the Red Sea and the Egyptian army quickly approaching, the Hebrews cried out to Moses, no doubt Moses cried out to God, and God came through with a second admonition: “stand firm” (Exodus 14:13b).
With our backs up against a wall, the proverbial rock and a hard place, so God calls us to “stand firm.” The apostle Paul’s words to Jesus’ followers in Philippi are encouragement for us today, in the midst of whatever we’re facing: “Therefore, my brothers, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm thus in the Lord, my beloved” (Philippians 4:1).
Isn’t that why God has given us spiritual armor for the spiritual battle (see Ephesians 6:10-18)? Jesus warned us that we had an enemy who is out to “steal and kill and destroy” (John 10:10). The apostle Peter warned us as well that this enemy, the devil, is like a “roaring lion seeking someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8).
Yet we often live as if there isn’t an enemy who feeds our fears. How to respond? Paul puts it this way: “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil” (Ephesians 6:11). And again, “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm” (Ephesians 6:13).
When your back is up against a wall, the third step of faith in affirming that “God’s got this!” is to “stand firm”!
About this Plan
Moses led the Hebrew people out of Egyptian slavery . . . only to find themselves backed up against the Red Sea. Perhaps that's how you feel right now: trapped. Good news! There’s hope in God’s Word! Let’s look at Exodus 14:12-14 (ESV) to unpack five ways to respond in faith and face whatever challenges you find in front and behind you—and to say, with confidence, “God’s got this!”
