Courageous PeaceSample
DAY 3 - Flying Kites in Chaos
As a kid, I was fascinated with kites.
I would unravel the string and test the height of the kite in different winds. It would almost be an intriguing problem to solve. How much string should I surrender to the wind and how high would the kite fly?
I began to discover the more length I surrendered to the wind, the higher the kite would fly. Though I had less control, the kite would soar to even greater heights.
It’s a humbling realisation when we surrender our control to trust a greater force.
C.S. Lewis writes in Mere Christianity , “To what will you look for help if you will not look to that which is stronger than yourself?”
I want to encourage you today to trust God with the things that are causing chaos in your life, rather than trying to control them yourself.
His ways are higher than our ways. We can choose to surrender control, knowing that his way is far greater than the way we thought it would turn out.
Like a kite, we can choose to surrender our control to the wind. However, unlike the wind, which is always changing, we can put our hope in God who is constant & never changes.
Courageous Peace is the conviction that says I cannot find peace within myself, but I find it in Jesus. By choosing to put my trust in Jesus, I am putting my trust in a constant peace.
David wrote the Psalms with incredible vulnerability. Within moments of reading the Psalms, David goes from wrestling with discouragement & loneliness to then declaring hope with an overwhelming joy. David expresses many emotions in the Psalms that are relatable for us today.
He writes an incredibly releasing statement that can help us know how to frame our prayer as we surrender control to God:
“My times are in your hands” — Psalm 31:15 NIV
I want to encourage you today to surrender what you’re trying to control to God, and trust him with your present moment.
Questions:
(1) What is an area in your life that you’ve been trying to control?
(2) How can you surrender control of this area to God today?
Prayer:
Dear God. My times are in your hands. I’m sorry for trying to do it on my own. I recognise that your ways are higher than mine and I choose to trust you in this season. In Jesus Name. Amen.
About this Plan
A 6-day study looking at how we can find true peace in chaos, whether wrestling with a restless mind, or from living in a restless world. God’s invisible work within you, is preparing you for his visible work through you. Peace is more contagious than you realise. Rob Stanmore is the Young Adults Pastor (Powerhouse) at the Hills Campus at Hillsong Church.
