Is Coronavirus a Judgment from God?Sample
If we really want to understand God in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, we should – as always – look to Jesus. After all, Jesus said this about Himself:
“Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?” John 14:9b
So, if you have seen Jesus, then you have seen the Father. There’s just no doubt about it: Jesus and the Father are on the exact same page. The author of Hebrews puts it this way:
The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. Hebrews 1:3a
Jesus shows us exactly what God’s agenda looks like. We look to the Son to understand the Father. And what do we discover about the Son and therefore God’s agenda in the world today? The Apostle John’s words leave us with little room for doubt:
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:17
And Jesus Himself clarified His mission in saying this:
“If anyone hears My sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.” John 12:47
If we want to understand the Father, we look to the Son. And it is clear from Scripture that God is on a mission to save the world, not to bring death upon it.
Jesus Brings Peace
This also bears out when we see how Jesus interacted with people during His earthly ministry. Not once did He strike people with illness. In fact, He did the polar opposite:
While the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and laying His hands on each one of them, He was healing them. Luke 4:40
So where is the coronavirus coming from, if not from God? Simple. It’s coming from the fallen world we live in.
Jesus contrasted what God desires for us with what the world holds for us in the gospel of John:
“I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
Notice that what Jesus brings us is peace in Him. The trouble does not come from Him but from the world. We can take Jesus at His word that His agenda with us is always good. Our God is not two-faced. He is not hurling disaster at us and then pretending to comfort us in it later.
About this Plan
Our world has been hit with a global pandemic – coronavirus – leading many to ask: Is the coronavirus God’s judgment on the world? Is God bringing this upon us to lead people to repentance? Could this be the beginning of the end? Does this view really hold up? Let’s take a brief look at the truth about God and coronavirus.
