I Am David Sample
DAY FOUR
“Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name; Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness” (Psalm 29:2).
Most people remember David as giant killer, a warrior, and a king. They assume his greatest qualities came out in battle and in his role as a ruler. However, the signature characteristic of David’s life was really in another area. He should be best-known for his unashamed worship of God.
David’s desire to worship set him apart from every other king of Israel. In fact, David is the only king God described as a man after His own heart (Acts 13:22).
What would it would mean for someone to be after your heart? For one thing, that person would be seeking a relationship with you rather than pursuing you for what you could give them. They wouldn’t be looking to gain a personal advantage from knowing you. Someone after your heart would pursue the part of you that you want to be pursued. How great would that make you feel? If you have ever been pursued by someone who simply wanted money, position, power, or something else you could give that person, then it’s not the kind of relationship you really want. You want a relationship with someone who values you for who you are. And that is the kind of relationship David had with God. It is why God said of David, “He is a man after My heart.”
If you are after someone’s heart, you will probably try to emulate or imitate that person. You will begin to develop the same desires, characteristics, and interests. A child who tries to follow a parent’s every word and action would be after that parent’s heart. If someone followed a leader in the same way, then they would be after the leader’s heart.
When we worship God, we acknowledge His rightful position in our world and in our lives. Our success on any given day depends on the presence and power of God. We give Him an opportunity to manifest His presence and power by our free and open expressions of adoration and our acknowledgement of who He is and what He has done for us. To put it another way, without God, we don’t stand a chance. Without His presence and power, there is no hope.
Releasing God’s presence and power daily in your life isn’t difficult. It is as simple as choosing to worship Him as soon as you wake up in the morning.
How can you express your worship on a daily basis?
