DAY 6 OF 7

WHEN GOD TAKES THE MIC

Psalm 91 has a transcendent moment in verse 14, when God just takes over the Psalm/song. One moment the songwriter is declaring over us, ‘the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot’, and the next moment God has the mic.

‘Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;

I will set him on high because he has known My name.

He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble;

I will deliver him and honour him.’

It would seem that the theme resonates so profoundly with the Father in Heaven that He can’t contain Himself and just steps in unannounced and takes over the song Himself.

‘You love me, and I promise you deliverance.’

Yet consider the order of the actions that lead through to His promise of deliverance.

  1. I will SET YOU ON HIGH
  2. I will ANSWER YOU
  3. I will BE WITH YOU
  4. I will DELIVER YOU
  5. I will HONOUR YOU

Often our focus in life can be overtaken by the storm or the threats around us, and our first attention is on how to respond or avoid them. Yet your Father in heaven would draw your attention away from earthly circumstance to remember your heavenly position. ‘I will set him on high’.

Earthly perils may seem so close at hand, yet they are light-years from the locality Christ has afforded you. You have not positioned yourself there, God has done that mighty work through the cross.

Your shortcomings and weaknesses do not somehow evict you or make you vulnerable. He is the Most High, and there is no one higher; He is the Almighty, no one is mightier.

If He has ‘set you on high’ far above every principality and power, every throne and dominion, who can move you? None.

Still, we do live on this earthly plane, and we must certainly deal with its circumstances in some way or another. In this, you are not left without a mighty step in his promise to deliver you: ‘I will answer.’

You will ask Him for wisdom, and HE WILL ANSWER! Perhaps not in an instant, maybe not always what we might be hoping to hear, yet HE WILL ANSWER.

There is nothing quite so reassuring as to hear His voice or to know His guidance in a challenging circumstance. Beloved remember He has made you this promise – you will know His voice. Declare it. Believe for it.

Perhaps the greatest of all the promises in Psalm 91 is simply this: ‘I will be with you in trouble’. Yes, He will undoubtedly intervene in your circumstances, but more important than His commitment to help you is His promise to be with you.

There is a beauty in this beyond compare. He is there. Always there. Never leaving, never forsaking.

A best friend and an unfailing companion every step of the way. At your best and your worst, even if all others forsake you, He never will.

This echoes the covenant promise to Abraham, ‘I am your exceedingly great reward.’ There is no higher blessing than ‘Himself’, and all other needs are met within this singular provision. I am with you!

‘I will deliver you’ denotes for us that sometimes the troubles of life may seemingly have you firmly in their grip, yet our story is never one of defeat in Christ. He is the God of the breakthrough, and He sets captives free, He turns battles around, He delivers and then ‘He honours’.

Sometimes the deliverance and the honour are separate. Sometimes we must be patient for Him to honour us after He has delivered us. Yet He will surely keep His word, for all those who dwell in the secret place shall be honoured by Him.

You are never just brought out of Egypt, you will surely be brought into the promised land.

Beloved today as you declare Psalm 91 aloud, see yourself set on the highest high. Believe that when you call, He answers. Know that He will be with you in trouble, and out of the overflow of these things His mighty deliverance will ultimately produce high honour for you.

PSALM 91 PERSONALISED
TO READ AND DECLARE ALOUD

1. I dwell in the secret place of the Most High; therefore, I abide under the shadow of God Almighty.

2. The Lord God is my refuge and my fortress; He is my God, and in Him, I do trust with all my heart.

3. He surely delivers me from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence.

4. He covers me with His feathers, and under His wings, I take refuge. His truth is my shield and buckler.

5. I am not afraid of the terror by night nor of the arrow that flies by day,

6. Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

7. A thousand may fall at my side and ten thousand at my right hand, but it shall not come near me.

8. Only with my eyes shall I look and see the reward of the wicked.

9. Because I have made the Lord God my refuge, even the Most High my dwelling place,

10. No evil shall befall me, nor shall any plague come near my dwelling;

11. He gives His angels charge over me; they keep me in all my ways.

12. In their hands, they lift me up, lest I strike my foot against a stone.

13. I tread upon the lion and the cobra; the young lion and the serpent I trample underfoot.

14. The Lord says to me, “Because you have set your love upon Me, therefore I will deliver you; I will set you on high because you have known My name.

15. You shall call upon Me, and I will answer you; I will be with you in trouble; I will deliver you and honour you.

16. With long life, I will satisfy and show you My salvation.”
