May 22—Preach the Word

2 Timothy 4:1-2

Reflect

In today’s passage, Paul challenges his disciple Timothy to “preach the word” (ESV). Now most of us won’t have the opportunity to step up to a pulpit and preach the word in a church service. But daily we have the opportunity to share the word of God through our words and deeds. It’s interesting that Paul says this should be done “in season and out of season.” What does that mean to you? It could mean that we should do it even when it doesn’t feel comfortable, or when there might be opposition, or when we are a lone voice or witness. We should share boldly, yet with patience, recognizing that it is God’s work to change the hearts of our hearers.

Engage

Read today’s Scripture passage. Say or write it out in your own words, considering the following questions:

· What does it say about God?

· What does it say about us?

· Is there a promise to trust?

· Is there a command to obey?

· How will I apply this Scripture to my life?

· Who will I show that I care by sharing this truth?

Now read this week’s memory verse, 1 Thessalonians 2:4. Spend a few minutes working to memorize it.
