How Majestic is Your Name
Objects are defined by how we name them. Names carry meaning; they explain the character and essence of objects. A soon as we say chair, we understand that we are referring to a seat, a piece of furniture that has four legs for support and a rest for the back. The word chair can also describe a position of authority. When we come to people, the last name can indicate the provenance of one's predecessors. As soon as you hear somebody’s last name, you know there is a story behind it. It may describe the status of that particular family in society, a position held, or even a type of work or trade.
Thousands of years ago, a name could describe how your mother delivered you or the circumstances that surrounded your birth. Sometimes it explained how your parents felt, or how your delivery indicated a new time for a people or place: it carried a prophetic meaning—somebody’s destiny. However, when we analyze a certain aspect from somebody’s name, it usually refers to their past. Most of the time it may have nothing or little to do with their present.
Nevertheless, when you encounter the Creator of the universe, things are entirely different. God introduced Himself to human beings through history with different names. Each one of those names represents an aspect of the complexity of His character. He revealed Himself to humanity in ways that allow us to learn more about His personality while we encounter challenges, struggles, and life itself.
In today’s reading, you will see that the psalmist looks up, and after admiring God for the work of his hands, he worships Him, declaring that His name is majestic. What a wonderful word to describe our Lord and Savior. God’s name is impressive, grand, and lofty. It portrays dignity—an imposing aspect. It reveals His royalty because He is not only the Creator of everything, but He also reigns and rules supremely over His creation.
God’s name is higher than kingdoms, political parties, secret societies, governments, royals, and anything or anyone you can think of. He is simply and utterly majestic! Can you see God reigning over your life and family? Do you realize the level of power and strength our Father in heaven possesses and how much He desires to have a relationship with you? Isn’t this amazing? Oh, today, we will definitely join King David in his worship through this song– Oh Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Let us fix our eyes on our Lord and worship His glorious name! Let us look up and bless our Father in heaven! Enjoy His presence wherever you are. Rejoice because He is in control of all things.
About this Plan
How many times do we stop and take time to appreciate the world around and above us? God covered the heavens with His majesty; all of creation speaks to us about His power. But He also created us with a purpose–to have a personal relationship with Him. Through this devotional, we will take the focus off ourselves to look up in awe, surrender, and worship with thankfulness.
