When God Orders Your Steps: How to Get a Grip on Your TimeSample
IT HAPPENED TO ME – PART ONE
We all know that there are endless delays and problems that can highjack your time and destroy even the best laid schedule. But when you let God have first crack at your day, He can put things in order so that everything goes smoothly. After all, He stopped the sun for Joshua (see Joshua 10:13) so it’s not hard for Him to order time. It’s supernatural, and it works!
I’ll give you an example from my own life. One time my 85-year-old dad and I met up in Arizona to watch some spring training baseball games. He flew from Oregon and I flew from Minnesota to the Phoenix airport, which is huge.
We managed to find each other in the airport, get our luggage from different baggage turnstiles, walk miles to the rental car shuttle, catch the shuttle, rent the car, then drive to our hotel in Scottsdale. The whole process was tiring for my dad, but we had a great four days watching baseball, seeing the sights, and soaking up the sunshine.
On the morning we were to fly home, I was feeling a little anxious and rushed. I was tempted to think, “I don’t have time to read the Bible and pray today.” But I’ve learned that those are the times when I need to the most! I heard Him whisper, “Karen, if you’ll put Me first, I’ll order your day.”
I planned to drop my dad off at the airport and take the rental car back (and the shuttle) by myself, so he didn’t have to endure that part of the journey. He hadn’t been sleeping well in his hotel room and I hoped he could get up and packed on time. Also, it would be morning rush hour, my dad would have to navigate check in and security by himself, and I had to find the rental car return place (about five miles away from the airport). So much could go wrong!
So I spent time with God that morning, thanking Him for His help every step of the way. I could feel His peace enveloping me; I had such a sense of “doing this together.” No need to worry—I knew He was with us, He was guiding us, He was paving the way.
