Names of God: Through Thanksgiving & Christmas

DAY 5 OF 30

Peter writes a second letter to Jewish Christians towards the end of his life. His purpose for this letter is to warn them against false teachers and encourage them to stand strong in the faith. Peter wanted to emphasize the importance of learning and clinging to the proper knowledge of God.

Peter encourages those Jewish Christians and us today that God through Jesus has given us everything we need for life and godliness. God has held nothing back. There is no reason that believers should not be able to live the holy life because God has promised His power and presence to assist us. He reminds believers that we have been called by God and have escaped the corruption in the world. God has provided His children with His identity, His forgiveness, His power, His love, His mercy, and numerous other promises. It is done. All believers must do is accept and partake in the promises that have been provided.

Are you struggling with your identity in Christ? Do you still see yourself as unworthy of God’s promises that He has made available to you? Will you choose today to see yourself as the daughter of God, loved, forgiven, and redeemed with God’s power and exceedingly great and precious promises? What steps are you taking each day to guard your mind, increase in spiritual knowledge, grow in the faith, and partake of God’s promises?

Father God, You are the great “I AM”. You are my strength when I am weak. You are my light when I am struggling in darkness. You are my hope when I am suffocating in fear. You are my wisdom when I am confused. You are my love when I am lonely. You are my redeemer when I am paralyzed by the past. You are my power when I feel ineffective in the present. You are my rock when I am fearful about the future. Lord, You have given me everything that I need for life. You are my everything. Lord, help me to turn to You first for all of my needs before turning to other people or other things. Thank You for being You and thank You for loving me as I am. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

About this Plan

Names of God: Through Thanksgiving & Christmas

What’s in a name? The many beautiful names of God reveal something about who he is and why he functions the way he does. Names of God – specifically written to help us focus on our Lord during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons – walks us through the study of six of the names God has given himself. Time is spent looking at the truths these names reveal about God, and how this knowledge should practically impact our everyday decisions, emotions, and relationships. “For what higher, more exalted, and more compelling goal can there be than to know God?” ~ J.I. Packer. Come join us as we get to know God more fully and spend time adoring him for who he is. God shows himself to us through his names because of his great love for us. We, in turn, have the privilege of loving, worshipping and resting in Him on an even deeper level during this reflective time of year. Journal with us as we go through this study for the next six weeks…reading and writing what God speaks into our hearts.
